HB 568 has been put on hold until the fall of 2008 at the earliest
Keep those letters and calls coming in!
Also recently referred to the State Government and Elections
Committee by the Speaker and the House Rules and Reference Committee
is House Bill 586, which would prohibit the ownership of pit bulls,
and require officials to seize all pit bulls after the bills
effective date. This bill is sponsored by Representative Tyrone Yates.
Our office has received an overwhelming number of calls in opposition
to this bill from concerned Ohio citizens compared to a very small
number of calls from those who support it. It is my stance that these
dogs are only trained to be vicious, and any injuries sustained from
pit bull bites are due largely to inappropriate pet ownership.
We have decided that the State Government committee will not meet
again until we reconvene in the fall. House Bill 568 will not get a
hearing before the committee until then at the earliest, and perhaps
much later or not at all.
As always, feel free to contact my office if you'd like to know more
about the State Government and Elections Committee, or if you have
questions or concerns. I can be reached at 614-466-3506, or by e-mail
at district86@ohr.state.oh.us, or, write to State Representative
David Daniels, 77 South High Street, 11th Floor, Columbus, Ohio 43215.
